Warning: The Wilds spoilers ahead! Turns out, the plane crash was faked in order to put the girls in a situation where they have to work together to find community, all part of a social experiment conducted by Dr. Gretchen Klein (Rachel Griffiths), code-named “The Dawn of Eve.” As the girls know nothing of the experiment, believing themselves to have been en route to some sort of female empowerment workshop/retreat, Klein embedded two operatives in the group to assist and report back. One of these operatives died as a result of the crash, and Leah discovers the identity of the second at the very end of the season. The 10 episodes of season 1 jumped between the girls on the island and being interviewed post-rescue, and the last episode set up quite a cliffhanger in Leah discovering the observation room showing live recordings of another group of stranded teens–all boys. Season 2, then, introduces those boys (code-named “The Twilight of Adam”), and spends quite a bit of time on their dynamic. Like the girls, there are pre-existing relationships between pairs of boys–stepbrothers, best friends, rivals–and preconceived ideas about each other are tested. As with the first season, the story jumps between time on the island and post-rescue interviews, this time centered on something catastrophic that happens two weeks in that prevents the boys from successfully reaching the goal set for them by Dr. Klein. The new episodes of course also include the girls, especially Leah, who finds a way in quarantine to reach one of the boys, Raf (Zack Calderon), and plot with him how to escape their current situation. Those who have watched all eight episodes of The Wilds Season 2 must be dying to know when Season 3 is due, so read on for all we know…

Will there be a Season 3 for The Wilds?

Sadly, there will not. Prime Video announced on July 28, almost three months after season 2 dropped, that they have canceled the series. It’s a disappointing decision since season 2 ended with a wallop, as Leah revealed she had been running a long con against Dr. Klein and her cohort, and had been able to reach her friend Ian, who then called the FBI. Dr. Klein fled the island compound, but not before recruiting Seth (Alex Fitzalan)–not dead! Still wildly unstable!–as her new inside man.
Executive producers Amy B. Harris and Sarah Streicher had been optimistic and excited about exploring relationships between the two groups in a third season, and discovering more about Dr. Klein’s social experiment. At a post-season wrap-up, Streicher told TVLine, “Leah felt quite close to ‘getting’ Gretchen at the end of the second season, but now she’s more remote. So we definitely want to show how even though she has fled, these young people are still going to have means of unraveling her conspiracy and striking back.”

When will Season 3 of The Wilds start?

We’re guessing that, if Season 3 is a go, it will roughly follow the same production schedule as Season 2. The announcement that there would be a Season 2 happened in December 2020, filming for that season began in April 2021 and wrapped in August, with the premiere on Prime Video in May 2022, or about nine months later. If our hypothetical (but surely happening, I mean, come on) Season 3 starts filming within the next several months, we might be seeing a premiere date of mid- to late-2023. Again, we’ll update this page with information as we get it.

Who will be on Season 3 of The Wilds?

We imagine the cast of season 2 will return for season 3, including larger roles for some characters introduced in season 1 who were more or less sidelined for plot reasons in season 2 (that wasn’t too spoilery, was it?). We met the girls in Season 1; here are the boys: Zack Calderon as Rafael Garcia Aidan Laprete as Henry Tanaka Nicholas Coombe as Josh Herbert Charles Alexander as Kirin O’Conner Miles Gutierrez-Riley as Ivan Taylor Reed Shannon as Scotty Simms Tanner Ray Rook as Bo Leonard Alex Fitzalan as Seth Novak
